| BIOGRAPHY I began my dance training in American Social Ballroom Dancing in Montreal, where I taught and competed in the American Social Ballroom style of Dance.(Fred Astaire style) Later. I decided to expand my dance knowledge by studying (Alex Moore's) English International style of Ballroom Dancing - Studying all 10 dance styles - (Standard and Latin Divisions) and earned my Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals in both styles of dance from ISTD. - studying from the Imperial Society of teachers of Dancing books (ISTD) This type of dancing is danced world-wide I started Line Dancing in 1994 and promptly joined the CWDI (Canadian Western Dance International Society) In 1995 - I started teaching Line Dancing. In 2001 - I started choreographing dances and competing in the choreography competitions held by the CWDI (Vancouver Vibrations) in Surrey and at the Hot Tamales Events held every year by Michele Perron in West Vancouver. I received many awards for line dances that I choreographed including "Memory" which was published in the LineDancer Magazine in the UK (and danced world wide) "Moon River" which was published in the Sing-a-long Book issued by the LineDancer Magazine and "Boardwalk Time" was taught at the World Line Damce Party In January 2009. Presently, I teach at 7 different locations, South Granville Seniors Centre, Kerrisdale Community Centre and The Brock House Society, (which is a private club, overlooking English Bay and the North Shore), Shannon Oaks Retirement Home, Clarendon Court Retirement Home, South View Terrace Retirement Home and Mount Pleasant Community Centre. The Westend Seniors Action Network, Vancouver, B.C. published the following article in their book "Everyday Heroes" touching the hearts of Westend Seniors. Nominated by Zan Romeder. Irene Groundwater is our Texas Line Dancing Teacher at the South Granville Seniors Centre. She is unique, ambitious, open, fun and a great teacher.
